About us
Steel structures, elegant and versatile, lightweight but strong and long-lasting are a competitive solution for a wide range of civil, industrial and agricultural constructions.
Both through the courses delivered to students and through the research activity, the Department of Steel Structures, Management and Engineering Graphics has the privilege to follow metal structures throughout their lifetime: from the imagination and materialization of the original idea, modelling of the behaviour and careful detailing for execution, to demolition and material recovery to incorporate them into a new, more elaborated metal construction, tailored to the demands of the moment.
The Steel Structures Team manages the entire activity of continuously reducing the distance between the model and reality. The Engineering Graphics Team develops the graphical language with its expressive and precise grammar, the main support of the complex dialogue carried out between the designer, the design checker, the builder and the client. The Management Team deals with management activities for the design, execution and use of the construction throughout its life. The Engineering Graphics and Management teams in our department cover, through their courses, any type of construction – made of reinforced concrete, metal, timber or masonry.
The main objective of our department is to train students for the real, practical and complex process of design and execution work, a process that is constantly changing and evolving. All these activities are now coordinated and managed on BIM (Building Information Modelling) platforms. Students are initiated to use them in the dedicated course, led by members of our department.
